JAMMU, Feb 13: A delegation of Hindu Shiv Sena (HSS) led by its J&K president, Krishan Manhas here today met the Principal of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu and raised the issue of misuse of government ambulances.
HSS State vice president, Naveen Choudhary was also present during the meeting.
The delegation alleged that government ambulances of GMC Jammu are being openly misused to transport patients to private hospitals in Punjab.
“Who grants permission for such use of government resources,” the delegation members asked adding that silence of the administration points towards a malpractice.
The delegation members further alleged that ambulance drivers are charging arbitrary and excessive rates thereby exploiting helpless patients and their families.
It was pointed out that the fare decided at the hospital is illegally increased during the journey and in several cases, patients are even abandoned midway if additional money is not paid.
The delegation demanded a high-level inquiry into the role of doctors referring patients to private hospitals in Punjab using government ambulances.
The GMC Principal assured a thorough inquiry and early resolution of the issue.
