JAMMU, Feb 13: Senior political leader from Udhampur, Pawan Khajuria called on Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and raised several pressing issues concerning Jammu & Kashmir, particularly those affecting residents of border areas.
During the meeting, Khajuria drew the Defence Minister’s attention to the daily hardships faced by people living in border areas. Referring specifically to Udhampur district, he highlighted that in many cases, despite the transfer of land to the Army, affected families have not yet received proper compensation. He further conveyed the demand of local residents for an increase in rent for lands currently under Army occupation, stating that delays and inadequate payments have led to serious economic and social distress among the people.
Pawan Khajuria urged the Defence Minister to direct the concerned departments to expedite all pending cases and ensure that justice is delivered to the affected families at the earliest.
He also raised the issue of Army gates installed within certain villages, which have created significant difficulties for local residents. These gates, he said, are causing inconvenience in daily movement, affecting access to education, healthcare, and other essential services. In emergency situations, particularly at night, villagers often face serious challenges in reaching hospitals and medical facilities.
Khajuria appealed to the Defence Minister to find practical solutions that maintain national security while easing the hardships of civilians living in these sensitive areas.
Khajuria also invited attention of Defence Minister towards the recent activities of suspicious elements in Basantgarh and Majalta of Udhampur district and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard also.
Rajnath Singh listened to the concerns raised and assured that the matters would be examined through the appropriate authorities, with necessary action taken accordingly. He reiterated the Central Government’s commitment to addressing the problems of border residents and resolving public welfare issues on priority.
Khajuria expressed gratitude to the Defence Minister for granting time and giving a patient hearing to the issues, expressing hope for a prompt and positive resolution in the interest of border families.
