JAMMU, Feb 13: A delegation of the Pensioners & Senior Citizens Welfare Society, UT of J&K submitted memorandum to Government highlighting the demands of pensioners, senior citizens and common masses of the UT of J&K.
The delegation while projecting the long-pending demands of pensioners and senior citizens, demanded increase in Medical Allowance at par with Central Government and Ladakh employees and pensioners, enhancement of monthly pension from the age of 65 years, release of withheld Dearness Allowance (DA), implementation of Old Pay Scheme, stoppage of commutation recovery after 10 years, timely release of pensionary benefits, issuance of senior citizen identity cards, extension of Central Government benefits to UT pensioners, extension of CGHS coverage to all retirees who retired prior to 2019, regularization of daily wagers .
The delegation expressed hope that the Government will give serious consideration to the issues raised and take immediate steps for redressal of grievances in the larger public interest.
The delegation comprising Mir Ghulam Rasool Batwinee (president), D?N? Sadhu (State secretary), and Gh. Rasool Bhat (district president, Kulgam) submitted the memorandums to the Chief Minister, Education Minister, Agriculture Minister, and the Chief Secretary of J&K.
The delegation drew attention to the serious crisis in the fruit industry during 2025, particularly the heavy losses suffered by orchardists due to highway blockades and devastating floods. It demanded, special relief package for affected fruit growers , provision of interest-free loans, KCC loan relief measures, review and rectification of failure of land-based subsidy schemes ,regulation and support for High Density Plantation and Nursery sector, providing infrastructure and staff in schools, restricting use of mobile phones by students in schools, need for moral, ethical and skill-based education, poor service conditions of teachers in private schools and demand for minimum salary of Rs 18,000 per month, action against submission of fraudulent records by some private schools, rising unemployment and growing menace of drug abuse among youth.
