Religious procession taken out on eve of Shivratri

JAMMU, Feb 14: On the eve of Mahashivratri, a grand religious procession was taken out in Jammu city marking the beginning of the holy festival with religious fervour and enthusiasm.
Taken out under the patronage of Jammu Kashmir Dharmarth Trust in association with several other religious organizations, the procession passed through several prominent areas of the city, with devotees chanting hymns in praise of Lord Shiva and carrying religious flags and placards.
Several tableaux depicting the mythical tales associated with marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati with artists attired as Gods and Goddess were main attraction of the procession. Youth and elderly alike participated in large numbers, creating a festive and devotional atmosphere in the city. Click here to watch video
The procession took off from Ranbireshwar Temple at Shalimar Chowk and after passing through City Chow, Purani Mandi, Link road, Chowk Chabutra, Panjtirthi, Pacca Danga and Parade, culminated at the Ranbireshwar temple.
Devotees were seen performing bhajans and kirtans, while traditional musical instruments added to the spiritual ambience of the procession. Several social and religious organisations of Jammu jointly organised the Shobha Yatra.
Before commencement of the procession, special prayers were offered at the Ranbireshwar Temple by president of the Dharmarth Trust, Parshotam Singh Pathania, Secretary Ashok Sharma, MLA Yudhvir Sethi along with other prominent persons and devotees.
Adequate security arrangements were made by the administration and police to ensure smooth conduct of the procession.
All temples, particularly Shiv temples across the Union Territory have been decorated and illuminated for the occasion of Mahashivratri.
There are reports of taking out similar religious processions across Jammu region on the eve of Shivratri.
