JAMMU, Feb 14: The seventh anniversary of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack was observed across Jammu region today with solemn ceremonies, Tiranga marches and prayer meetings, as police officers, political leaders, social organizations and students paid heartfelt tribute to the 40 CRPF personnel who were martyred in the IED blast at Lethpora.
At the Police Martyrs Memorial opposite Railway Station Jammu, Rotary Club Jammu Tawi in collaboration with Rotary Club of Jubilee Hills Hyderabad organized a tribute ceremony and felicitation of martyrs’ families. IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti, the chief guest, paid homage to the martyrs and said that soldiers work round the clock to ensure that society lives in peace and security.
He stressed greater involvement of civil society with martyrs’ families and assured full cooperation from the Police Department for such initiatives.
The function was presided over by Kuldeep Khuda, former DGP J&K, who said that over 2000 security personnel, have sacrificed their lives since the onset of militancy and their families continue to show courage in the face of hardship.
Ashok Gupta, former IGP, welcomed the guests and said the police uniform symbolises commitment and selflessness.
Dr Pawan Malhotra, Principal ASCOMS, also spoke in honour of the martyrs. Raj Shikhar Reddy PDG, Balakutti Reddy PP and Kalyan Pangloori, President Rotary Club Jubilee Hills Hyderabad, supported distribution of cycles as a token of gratitude to families of martyred DySPs, Inspectors, SIs, ASIs, Head Constables, SgCTs and Constables.
Senior officers including Suleman Choudhary, IGP Traffic, J S Johar, IGP Telecommunications, Rajeshwer Singh DIG, Joginder Singh SSP Jammu and C L Banal (Retd), member PSC, were present.
The programme was compered by Rtn Dr Sandhya Bharadwaj with support from PDG Dr Dushyant Choudhary, and vote of thanks was presented by Dr Shivani Choudhary.
The 76 Bn CRPF also observed the seventh death anniversary of the martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack as “Remembrance Day” at its Headquarters in Gangyal, Jammu.
The 76 Bn CRPF lost five of its brave personnel in the attack—Shaheed HC/GD Naseer Ahmed, Shaheed HC/DVR Jaimal Singh, Shaheed CT/GD Rohtas Lamba, Shaheed CT/GD Sukhjinder Singh and Shaheed CT/Bugler Tilak Raj.
To commemorate the bravehearts who attained martyrdom on the day, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was organised at the Battalion Headquarters today, wherein Commandant 76 Bn CRPF Vezoto Tinyi, Second-in-Command Jayram Prasad, Second-in-Command Sangeeta Chouhan, Assistant Commandant Anil Kumar and other officers paid homage to the martyrs.
In Ramban, the 84 Battalion CRPF observed Pulwama Martyrs Day at its tactical headquarters in Chanderkote.
Commandant N Ranbir Singh and all ranks paid floral tribute and observed a 2-minute silence.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to stand by them. He also urged youth not to fall prey to misinformation and to contribute positively to nation-building.
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders at Mandal in Tawi Island held a prayer meeting and observed silence in memory of the martyrs.
Babbu Verma, Krishan Lal, Kuldeep Singh, Surjeet Sarmal and R L Kaith said the sacrifice of the brave personnel would never be forgotten.
Subedar Baldev Chand Sandhu, Havildar Des Raj Kaith, Sonu Heer, Tilak Raj Bassa and Mohinder Kumar were among those present.
At Central University of Jammu, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad organised a Tiranga March from BRS, SPM and Shailputri hostels to the main gate.
Unit President Abhishek Choudhary, Vice President Sanskriti Singh and karyakartas Rafia and Suraj Prakash Nirala addressed the students and paid floral tribute.
Rishi Kilam, National Spokesperson Youth NCP, also paid rich tribute at Jammu University, terming the attack a dark chapter in history and expressing solidarity with the martyrs’ families.
Prayer meetings were also held at various places to honour the fallen heroes.
