Medical employees announce Feb 20 strike against salary cuts

JAMMU, Feb 17: Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation (JKMEF), Jammu province, has announced a two-hour strike on February 20 in protest against recent Government orders affecting the salaries and service conditions of medical employees.
The decision was taken during an urgent meeting of Federation leaders and representatives from Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and its associated hospitals held at the DHS Complex here today. The meeting was chaired by Federation president Jaswinder Singh.
The leaders expressed strong resentment over Order Number Acctt/236/2022-02 dated January 20, 2026, and also referred to Order Number 807-HME of 2025, under which the Director Finance stopped an allowance equivalent to two-and-a-half days’ salary by invoking SRO-91 of 1982. The Federation termed the move unjustified and detrimental to the interests of medical employees.
JKMEF chairman and PCI member Sushil Sudan alleged that categorizing lab assistants, drivers, MTS and sanitary staff as ministerial staff was a clear violation of SRO-334 dated July 13, 2022. He said the decision had adversely affected the legitimate rights and service benefits of these employees.
Among others who attended the meeting included JKMEF general secretary Parfulat Singh, Anoop Khajuria and Amarjeet Singh of GMC Jammu, working president Bahadur Singh, secretary Ram Lal, office secretary Kulwant Singh and press secretary Tejinder Singh.
The Federation has demanded immediate withdrawal of the impugned orders, warning that the protest will be intensified if the Government fails to address their grievances.
