Ramadhan Moon Sighted In J&K; Fasting To Begin From Thursday

Srinagar, Feb 18: The holy month of Ramadhan will commence from Thursday as the crescent moon was sighted in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening, Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, announced.
Grand Mufti said that authenticated testimonies were received from various locations after Maghrib prayers confirming the sighting of the crescent.
“In light of the verified reports, the first day of fasting will be observed on Thursday, February 19. Taraweeh prayers will begin tonight,” he said.
He conveyed his greetings to the Muslim Ummah and called upon people to spend the sacred month in prayer, reflection, patience and compassion.
The decision was taken after consultations with members of the moon sighting committee and senior religious scholars, he added. (KNC)
