RAMBAN, Feb 18: In order to strengthen electoral awareness and promote informed democratic participation, a mega awareness programme under the flagship SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) was organized, here today.
The programme was graced by Chief Electoral Officer J&K Sanjeev Verma as the chief guest, while District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan presided over the function.
Chairperson District Development Council Ramban Dr Shamshad Shan, along with DDC members, also graced the occasion.
Addressing to the gathering, the Chief Electoral Officer appreciated the District Election Officer Ramban and his team for achieving nearly 90% SIR coverage in the district and encouraged them to strive for the 100% target at the earliest.
He underscored the importance of sustained voter awareness campaigns in strengthening democracy and called upon citizens, especially the youth, to actively participate in the electoral process.
The District Election Officer reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing voter participation through continuous outreach, awareness drives and facilitation measures across the district.
During the programme, various awareness activities were organised to engage different sections of society.
Cultural performances by local artists and Nukkad Natak added vibrancy to the programme while effectively conveying the message of voter awareness in an engaging manner.
Special focus was laid on motivating first-time voters, women voters and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) to actively participate in elections without hesitation.
The Chief Electoral Officer also felicitated outstanding BLOs, AEROs, EROs and other officials for their contributions to electoral management.
Newly enrolled young voters were encouraged and provided voter ID cards and certificates, while PwD voters were also facilitated to recognise their participation and ensure inclusivity.
Among others who were present included SSP Ramban Arun Gupta; ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, Dy Director Information in the Office of CEO J&K (SVEEP Nodal Officer )Salam Din, Dy DEO Sayed Mazahir Hussain Shah; ACR Showkat Hayat Mattoo and SDM Banihal Mohammad Naseeb Bajran.
