JAMMU, Feb 18: The president of the Janta Dal United (JDU), Jammu & Kashmir, GM Shaheen, today strongly urged the Union Railway Minister to introduce direct train services between Delhi and Srinagar at the earliest.
During a press interaction here today, Shaheen emphasized that the long-pending demand for direct rail connectivity between the national capital and Srinagar is not merely a matter of convenience but a strategic necessity for the economic upliftment of Jammu & Kashmir.
He stated that direct trains from Delhi to Srinagar would significantly ease the heavy rush of tourists and pilgrims visiting the Valley and would serve as a major boost to the tourism industry, which remains the backbone of the Union Territory’s economy.
Shaheen highlighted that improved railway connectivity would reduce travel costs, enhance accessibility for middle-class families, generate employment opportunities for local youth, and promote trade and commerce in the region. He further asserted that with the growing influx of visitors to Kashmir, the need for seamless and affordable transportation has become more urgent than ever.
