JAMMU, Feb 23: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has sought a specific affidavit from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, regarding the status of criminal proceedings in connection with the alleged theft and unlawful removal of medical devices from the Amrit Pharmacy at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu
The matter is being heard as a Public Interest Litigation taken up suo motu by the court. The Division Bench comprising the Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal noted that, pursuant to earlier directions, the Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu had filed an affidavit stating that CCTV footage revealed certain individuals removing items from the Amrit Pharmacy without permission of the competent authority.
Based on the preliminary material, a formal complaint was lodged with Police Station Bakshi Nagar on December 9, 2025, and a preliminary enquiry was initiated.
However, the court observed that there was no clarity on record as to whether a formal FIR had been registered or what outcome, if any, had emerged from the enquiry. In view of this, the Bench granted one week’s time to the respondents to file a detailed affidavit by the SSP, Jammu, clearly indicating the status of the investigation and the action taken.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on February 25, 2026.
