JAMMU, Feb 23: A woman sustained serious injuries after she was stabbed by a man at Rajiv Gandhi Park in the Gangyal area here today.
Officials said, Police Station Gangyal received information about a knife attack at the park in the morning.
A police team immediately rushed to the spot and found the injured woman lying there with multiple stab wounds, they said.
The victim has been identified as Rafia Bano, wife of Arif Jamal, a resident of Ward No. 57, Gangyal.
Officials said she had suffered injuries on her neck and other parts of her body.
According to them, she was initially taken to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital for treatment, from where she was later referred to Government Medical College Jammu for specialized care, where her condition was stated to be stable when this report was filed.
Police have arrested the accused, identified as Amarjeet Singh alias Kaka, a resident of Model Town, Gangyal.
Officials said that after committing the crime, the accused also attempted to injure himself with the knife but was stopped.
He was also taken to Government Medical College Jammu for treatment, where he is presently under the custody of police, they said.
While the weapon used in the crime has been seized, police have registered a case FIR number 25/2026 at Police Station Gangyal under sections 4/25 of the Arms Act and section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with further investigation set into motion to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
