The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sunny and Rawal, from Kulam village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused were acting on the directions of foreign-based handlers Gopi Nawashehria, Jassi Kulam, and Sushant Chopra, who are associated with the BKI, Yadav said.
Investigation revealed that the accused allegedly fired gunshots twice at the residence of a travel agent in the Garhshankar area to extort money.
The DGP said both were arrested in an intelligence-led operation from Jalandhar-Amritsar Highway, near the Lidhran underbridge at Suranussi in Jalandhar.
Further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages and identify other members of this module. More arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days, he added.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar. (PTI)
