JAMMU, Feb 26: The reconstruction and beautification project of Ziyarat Sharief Syed Kanju Shah (RA) was inaugurated here today by Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, marking the completion of a major infrastructure upgrade for the revered Sufi shrine within the stipulated timeline.
Dr Andrabi was accompanied by the Waqf Board’s Special Officer Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Executive Magistrate Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin, Administrator Jammu Abid Hussain, Executive Officers of the Board, Imams, Khateebs and prominent members of civil society. A large number of devotees and local residents also witnessed the inauguration ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Andrabi described the project as one of the Board’s “dream initiatives” in Jammu and said it had fulfilled the long-pending aspirations of devotees associated with the spiritual centre. She said that a high-quality reconstruction and beautification plan for the shrine was taken up last year and completed in all respects with coordinated efforts and modern construction techniques.
“The historic work of the Board is visible across J&K. We remain committed to continuing this developmental mission in future as well,” she said, while highlighting the role of the entire team for executing the project with professional efficiency and technical expertise.
Responding to media queries regarding criticism from certain political quarters over Waqf management, the Chairperson asserted that the Board’s transparent developmental initiatives were being appreciated by the public and that such progress had unsettled those who “never believed in creating quality infrastructure at Sufi shrines.” She added that the Board would continue its work without allowing developmental activities to be politicized or diverted for personal interests.
The upgraded shrine complex is expected to provide improved facilities for devotees and strengthen the spiritual and cultural significance of the historic Ziyarat in Jammu.
