JAMMU, Feb 26: Apni Party senior vice president Ghulam Hassan Mir today stressed the need to strengthen brotherhood and unity between the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir through better understanding and by collectively resisting forces that create divisions among the people.
Addressing a workers’ meeting at the party’s Gandhi Nagar office in Jammu district, Mir said political parties often indulge in divisive rhetoric that generates insecurity, regional antagonism and communal hatred. He urged party leaders and workers to counter such narratives by reaching out to the public and promoting the party’s agenda of equitable development and inclusive politics.
The meeting was attended by provincial president, Jammu, Manjit Singh, along with provincial, district and leaders of various wings to review preparations for the party’s sixth foundation day celebrations across Jammu province. During the deliberations, Mir issued directions for holding regular public outreach programmes and ensuring prompt redressal of people’s issues.
He claimed that people were looking for an alternative in the political system of J&K and that the Apni Party was receiving growing support, particularly as the elected government led by the National Conference had “lost ground”.
Recalling the formation of the Apni Party, Mir said it emerged at a time when no other political party was ready to raise the voice of the people and asserted that it played a key role in protecting land and jobs for the local population.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh said the party’s membership had increased in several areas and alleged that the BJP had misled the people with “hollow slogans” of development and employment.
He further alleged that non-locals were being allowed to exploit natural resources, while local mining families were struggling for basic necessities, claiming that the mining mafia was operating with the support of authorities.
