Restrictions to continue today as precautionary measure

Srinagar, Mar 2: Hundreds of people across Kashmir took to the streets for the second consecutive day today to mourn the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, by the United States-Israel military strike even as precautionary restrictions were imposed by authorities across the region.
Authorities enforced precautionary measures including closure of schools and colleges, internet speed restrictions and restrictions on the movement of the people and vehicles by blocking the roads with barricades and concertina wires.

Processions taken out in several parts of Kashmir, with participants expressing grief, solidarity and raising slogans in favour of Iran and against USA and Isreal.
Srinagar witnessed gatherings and peaceful rallies at multiple locations, with hundreds participating in processions and mourning. Protesters were carrying black flags and portraits of Khamenei.

In the Shalteng area of Srinagar, protesters clashed with police by hurling stones at them and the police in return fired teargas and chased them.
Processions and rallies were taken out in several parts of Srinagar as well as in Budgam, Bandipora, Sonawari, Pulwama and other areas of South and North Kashmir.
In several districts, particularly in interior areas and outskirts, crowds raised anti-US and anti-Israel slogans. Security was tightened across the Valley and additional police personnel were deployed to maintain order amid the gatherings.
Security forces were stationed at key intersections and sensitive locations, particularly in Srinagar, to prevent any untoward incident.
Religious leaders including Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari and Imran Raza Ansari joined public calls urging mourners and protestors “not to take the law into their own hands” and to express their sentiments peacefully and within the ambit of law.
Officials said all restrictions and precautionary measures are temporary and subject to review depending on the evolving situation.
Authorities in the meantime have decided to continue precautionary restrictions across all districts of Kashmir tomorrow to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents.
The decision has been taken in view of the prevailing situation and to ensure that law and order is maintained across the Valley.
The Education Institutions across Kashmir will continue to remain closed tomorrow. The University examinations scheduled for tomorrow have already been postponed.
