Revenue courts sit on 26,338 legacy matters

10,438 fresh cases still pending in J&K

Srinagar, Mar 2: More than 26,000 legacy cases continue to weigh on revenue courts across the J&K, even as over 10,438 fresh cases remain pending out of 39,934 instituted cases, official data revealed.
As per the data, at the Union Territory level, a total of 39,934 new cases were filed, including 35,319 LRC cases and 4,615 non-LRC cases.
Of these, 29,487 cases – comprising 26,127 LRC and 3,360 non-LRC matters – have been disposed of. In addition, 1,748 cases were dismissed and 4,600 transferred during the period.
At the UT Courts level specifically, 8,900 new cases were instituted. While 6,326 have been disposed of, 2,612 remain pending. The UT Courts dismissed 344 cases and transferred 1,670, with 5,826 legacy cases still on record.

In Kashmir division, Anantnag recorded 2,338 new cases, including 1,533 LRC and 805 non-LRC matters. Of these, 1,918 were disposed of, leaving 420 pending. The district dismissed 117 cases and transferred 140, while legacy cases stand at 2,410.
Baramulla registered 2,022 new cases, of which 1,625 were disposed of and 396 remain pending. The district reported 399 legacy cases. Budgam saw 1,315 new filings, disposing of 951 and leaving 363 pending, with 253 legacy cases. Kupwara recorded 1,295 new cases and disposed of 965, leaving 326 pending; legacy cases stand at 14.
Kulgam reported 1,018 new cases, with 685 disposed of and 329 pending, and 57 legacy cases. Pulwama registered 1,201 new cases, disposed of 954, and has 246 pending, with no legacy cases reported. Shopian recorded 909 new cases, of which 674 were disposed of and 235 remain pending; legacy cases stand at 203.
Bandipora saw 780 new cases, disposing of 635 and leaving 143 pending, with 50 legacy cases. Ganderbal registered 753 new cases, disposed of 596, and has 157 pending; legacy cases total 167. Srinagar recorded 532 new cases, of which 328 were disposed of and 202 remain pending, with 47 legacy cases.
In Jammu division, Kathua reported 3,514 new cases and 1,034 pending after disposing of 2,477. Legacy cases there stand at 2,639. Jammu district recorded 3,730 new cases, disposed of 2,776, and has 949 pending; legacy cases total 235.
Udhampur registered 2,327 new cases, disposing of 1,615 and leaving 722 pending. It carries one of the highest legacy burdens at 5,252 cases. Rajouri saw 2,566 new cases, with 1,992 disposed of and 567 pending; legacy cases stand at 2,624.
Poonch recorded 1,681 new cases and 264 pending after 1,408 disposals, with 1,291 legacy cases. Doda reported 1,066 new cases, disposing of 845 and leaving 221 pending; legacy cases stand at 1,915. Ramban saw 898 new cases, disposed of 611, with 287 pending and 1,462 legacy cases.
Reasi registered 1,325 new cases and has 379 pending after 934 disposals, with 563 legacy cases. Samba recorded 1,120 new cases, disposed of 700, and has 413 pending; legacy cases stand at 83.
