Indian Army, UT Ladakh collaborate to boost Snow Leopard Conservation

LADAKH, Mar 3: In order to strengthen conservation of Ladakh’s fragile high-altitude ecosystem, the Fire & Fury Corps of the Indian Army and the Forest, Ecology & Environment Department, UT Ladakh, collaborated to boost Snow Leopard Conservation.
In this regard a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed under the Global Snow Leopard & Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP).
The MoU was signed in the presence of Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Fire & Fury Corps and Ashish Kundra, Chief Secretary of UT Ladakh.
The partnership aims to promote sustainable development and environmental protection while conserving iconic species such as the Snow Leopard, Himalayan Wolf, Bharal, Ibex, Marmot and Black-necked Crane, along with their habitats.
A joint Snow Leopard Conservation Cell will be established to monitor and further these conservation efforts.
Reaffirming its commitment to balancing national security with ecological responsibility, the Indian Army emphasized sustainable practices that safeguard both borders and biodiversity, setting a collaborative and eco-friendly framework for the region.
