Poonch observes complete shutdown

POONCH/ RAJOURI, Mar 3: Many parts of Rajouri and Poonch held protests while Poonch and Mandi towns observed complete shutdown over the killing of Iran’s supereme leader Ayatullah Syed Ali Khamenei in a joint attack of America and Israel three days ago during which all shop remain closed along with no movement of vehicles.
Reports said that after the killing of Ayatullah Khamenei and his close relatives and associates, protest erupted in many parts of J&K including Kashmir and Jammu Divisions, Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal and also in Ladakh. In a series of protests a joint call of peaceful protest against America and Israel was given by many organizations pertaining to different religions, following which all shops in Poonch, Surankote, Mandi and Mendhar remained closed and vehicular movement also remained suspended today. Rallies and protest marches were taken out at some places.
Protestors raised slogans against US-Israel and demanded all countries must bring these countries to justice as they have killed a religious leader of Iran. Terming it as major loss for Shia Muslim community in particular, they said that they will always miss him.
Meanwhile, protests erupted in various parts of Rajouri district on Tuesday against the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
In Budhal, residents gathered in front of the Sheikh-ul-Alam Masjid to stage a demonstration and condemned the joint military action by the US and Israel in Iran.
Raising slogans against Israel and the US, they termed the attack a violation of international law and an act of aggression against the Muslim world.
They also expressed concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East and called for peace and respect for sovereignty.
Senior PDP leader Farooq Inqlabi addressed the gathering and described the killing as “highly unfortunate and dangerous for global peace.”
He said “targeting the leadership of a sovereign nation was against international norms and could have serious consequences for regional and global stability”.
In Rajouri town, Muslim youth organised an “Iran Solidarity march.”
The protestors assembled on main road at Bela Colony in Rajouri and marched through the town, raising slogans against the US and Israel. Some protesters were seen burning posters of the American and Israeli leadership during the demonstration. Protests were also held in Kotranka in the district.
Carrying placards and banners, the protestors gathered near Ghas Mandi Chowk and denounced foreign intervention.
