REASI, Mar 6: Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Reasi, Pr. District and Sessions Judge, Khalil Choudhary today led a team of the DLSA to Sub Jail Reasi to take stock of civic amenities and services available for the inmates.
The team members included Secretary Pooja Gupta; SSP Paramveer Singh; ADC Rakesh Kumar; DySP Headquarters Vishal Singh Jamwal and Inspector K.M. Khajuria besides Psychiatrists from Narayana hospital.
The DLSA Chairman inaugurated a free medical camp and inspected the Prison Legal Aid Clinic. The Psychiatrists Doctors interacted with inmates and assessed their mental well being.
The Chairman and the team members also interacted with the inmates and reviewed their living conditions, availability of legal aid services and other facilities being provided in the jail.
The Secretary DLSA informed the inmates about their legal rights and the availability of free legal aid available through the Legal Services Authorities for those who cannot afford legal representation. The inmates were encouraged to approach the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) for proper legal assistance in their cases.
The Chairman, DLSA emphasized the importance of providing timely legal assistance to the inmates and ensuring that no person is deprived of justice due to lack of legal representation. He also stressed that regular jail visits help in identifying the problems faced by the inmates and in facilitating speedy disposal of their cases through appropriate legal mechanisms.
Meanwhile, an awareness programme to encourage participation in the upcoming National Lok Adalats scheduled on March 14 was organized at Legal Aid Clinic Karua. The participants were informed that Lok Adalats provide speedy, cost-effective and amicable settlement of disputes.
Another awareness programme on Social Welfare Schemes was conducted at Ransoo, Sangar. The PLVs updated the general public about different welfare schemes launched by the Government for the benefit of marginalized and vulnerable sections of society, including women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows and economically weaker sections.
