JAMMU: The High Court of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh on Tuesday felicitated members of the J&K cricket team, which recently won the Ranji Trophy for the first time in more than six decades.
Brigadier Anil Gupta (retd) of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) said the players were overjoyed to be honoured by the high court, in the presence of Chief Justice Arun Palli, Justice Sanjay Dhar, and others.
Led by domestic stalwart Paras Dogra, J-K clinched their maiden Ranji title after holding eight-time champions Karnataka to a draw, winning on the basis of a huge 291-run first-innings lead in the final at Hubballi on February 28.
The chief justice and judges praised the players for their dedication, perseverance, discipline and teamwork, saying the victory reflected the resilience and sporting excellence of the young cricketers, which will inspire aspiring sportspersons across the Union territory and the country.
During the event, commemorative T-shirts were presented to the members of the victorious team as a token of appreciation. The judges also presented a commemorative trophy to the team in recognition of their historic triumph.
“Usually, people are afraid of visiting the court. But when the team came to know that they would be felicitated by the high court, they were overjoyed. It was a matter of great happiness,” Brig Gupta told reporters. (PTI)
