JAMMU, Mar 11: Senior leader Pawan Khajuria has batted for the promotion of Dogri language in J&K.
Addressing a press conference in Udhampur today, Khajuria claimed that Dogri is an important language representing our identity and cultural heritage but it is continuously being ignored.
He said that limiting Dogri language only to government documents is not sufficient.
“We must speak and use Dogri in our homes so that the new generation remains connected with the language and its rich tradition continues,” Khajuria maintained adding: “In Udhampur district alone, there are 1427 government schools but Dogri is taught in only two.”
He said that separate Dogri language teachers should be appointed so that it can be taught in other schools as well.
“Even though Dogri has been included in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution but it still has not received the respect and encouragement it deserved,” Khajuria continued.
He further said that Dogri should be effectively included in school curricula.
Those who were present in the press conference were former Sarpanch Bishan Das, Mukund Lal, Narendra Pal, Bansi Lal, Parveen Singh, Rajkumar, Suram Chand, Makhan Lal, Rakesh Kumar, Bodhraj, Sunny Sharma and Jai Krishan Verma.
