NEW DELHI, March 12 : Delhi government will organise a grand programme on April 8 to mark ‘World Banjara Day’, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and historical contributions of the Banjara community.
The announcement came after Art, Culture and Language minister Kapil Mishra held a meeting with a delegation of the Banjara Vimukt Ghumantu Kalyan Sangh, Delhi Pradesh at the Delhi Secretariat to discuss preparations for the event.
Highlighting the community’s historical role, the minister said the Banjara community made significant contributions to India’s trade and social life in earlier times when modern transport systems were not developed.
“Through their hard work and mobility, Banjaras played a vital role in supplying essential goods across regions, thereby strengthening traditional trading networks”, He added.
He said the upcoming programme will prominently showcase the history, cultural traditions and contributions of the Banjara community, enabling younger generations to learn about their legacy and heritage.
Mishra added that the cultural traditions and folk heritage of the community are a valuable national asset and deserve wider recognition and preservation.
During the meeting, members of the delegation suggested that the World Banjara Day event should include a seminar on the history and culture of the community, felicitation of meritorious students and social workers, and presentations of traditional folk art and cultural performances.
