JAMMU, Mar 12: The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Jammu today organized a media workshop titled “Varta” at the Press Club of Jammu on the theme AI Impact Summit 2026, aimed at creating awareness among journalists about the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in the media sector.
The programme also included a training session on the use of AI tools to help journalists improve productivity, content creation and newsroom workflows. Over 40 journalists participated in the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Director PIB Jammu Neha Jalali said that accessibility, democratization of technology and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence are key principles of the AI Impact Summit 2026.
She said AI is rapidly influencing every sector, including media and communication, and stressed the need for journalists to adapt to emerging technologies.
She highlighted that AI can help enhance productivity, strengthen fact-checking systems and improve content creation in journalism.
She further said that the Government is promoting several initiatives under the national AI mission to ensure inclusive technological growth. Programmes such as IndiaAI Mission, YuvaAI and the SOAR initiative are aimed at expanding access to AI tools and bridging the digital divide, she added.
Vice President of Press Club of Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that journalism is undergoing rapid transformation globally and media professionals must understand and responsibly use AI technologies.
He encouraged young journalists to become familiar with AI tools to remain prepared for future challenges.
Professor at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Vinit Utpal said that Artificial Intelligence is transforming the global media ecosystem by enabling automation, data analysis and AI-assisted content generation. He said AI tools are helping newsrooms improve productivity, track information, monitor social media trends and verify data during breaking news situations.
Assistant Professor Bhawani Singh spoke on prompt engineering and the personalization of AI tools for journalistic work.
He stressed the importance of AI ethics and urged journalists to verify AI-generated content and clearly disclose the use of AI in reporting.
Earlier, Media and Communication Officer Zakir Nazeer welcomed the participants and said that the AI Impact Summit witnessed large global participation, with around 6 lakh attendees in person and over 9 lakh views through virtual streaming.
Delegations from more than 100 countries and 20 international organisations participated in the summit, he added.
