BUDAPEST, March 13: Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijj rt on Friday once again called on the European union to lift sanctions on Russian oil to allow Russian energy resources to return to the European market.
Citing the example of the United States, Szijj rt suggested temporarily easing sanctions on Russian oil rather than “dancing to Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s tune.”
The United States has authorised the sale of Russian crude oil and petroleum products loaded onto vessels as of March 12, according to a general license from the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
“The solution lies in what the Americans are doing: we should not dance to Zelenskyy’s tune, sanctions against Russian oil should be lifted, and Russian energy resources should be allowed to return to the European market. Unfortunately, Brussels has not yet taken this step,” Szijjarto said in a video message on social media, adding that Hungary “demands that Brussels, like the Americans, also suspend sanctions against Russian oil.
“I have just spoken with Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin, who informed me that Ukraine has launched several attacks against critical infrastructure of the TurkStream pipeline in Russia,” he said.
He highlighted, “Ukraine already blocks our oil deliveries, and now they are targeting our gas supply as well. TurkStream is essential for Hungary. If the pipeline is disrupted, the secure gas supply of Hungary and several Central and Southeast European countries will be at risk.”
He said that it is clear what’s happening. Hungarian elections are a month away, and Ukraine is trying to put Hungary under a total energy blockade in order to interfere in the elections and support the Tisza Party,
He said that Zelenskyy and the Ukrainians should “stop the attacks against energy infrastructure critical for Hungary’s supply and to stop interfering in our elections.”
