Haryana Women’s Commission orders arrest of rapper Badshah over controversial song

CHANDIGARH, Mar 13 : The Haryana State Commission for Women on Friday directed police to arrest Bollywood rapper Badshah after he failed to appear before the panel which had issued statutory summons.

Chairperson Renu Bhatia directed the Superintendents of Police (SP) in Panipat and Panchkula to take the singer into custody and seize his passport to prevent him from leaving the country. The Commission has formally submitted a written complaint to the Panipat police, seeking the registration of a case against the artist for defying statutory summons.

The controversy involves Badshah’s recent track ‘Tatiri,’ which has been flagged for its allegedly obscene lyrics and the objectification of women in its music video.

Badshah is the professional name of  Delhi born Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, rapper, singer, song writer and movie producer known for his work in Hindi, Haryanvi and Punjabi.

The panel had previously issued a notice on March 6, requiring a personal appearance of the rapper at the Panipat SP office. While a legal team representing the rapper requested an extension and suggested a video conference, citing security concerns and professional commitments, the Commission rejected these pleas.

Chairperson Renu Bhatia emphasized that the panel is taking a firm stand to protect the dignity of women and will not tolerate any disregard for its authority. She further revealed that they have garnered support from the women’s commissions of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. An appeal has also been made to the National Commission for Women to ensure that Badshah is not permitted to perform anywhere in the country.

Bhatia asserted that no events featuring the rapper will be allowed in Haryana moving forward. She maintained that while the singer’s lawyers claimed he is not a criminal and has already issued an apology video, he was legally bound to provide a personal clarification to the Commission.

DSP (Headquarters) Satish Vats confirmed receipt of the Commission’s complaint, noting that it specifically pertains to the non-compliance with the summons. The police are currently evaluating whether additional charges can be framed given the existing allegations. While the late arrival of the complaint delayed immediate action on Friday, authorities have stated that the documents will be reviewed on Saturday to determine the subsequent legal course of action against the rapper.
