Speaking on behalf of the transport fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir, AJKTWA Chairman, Karan Singh Wazir described the incident as a dastardly and unacceptable act that must not go unpunished. Wazir stated that any attempt on the life of a leader of Dr Farooq Abdullah’s stature- recognized nationally and internationally-poses a serious threat to peace and tranquility in the region. He emphasized that the incident should be thoroughly investigated and that any lapses in security must be identified and addressed promptly.
Wazir further remarked that Dr Abdullah has consistently advocated for peace, harmony, and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir as well as for the nation at large, and any attempt to harm him is an attempt to disturb the stability of the region.
Addressing the media on another important development concerning the transport sector, Wazir welcomed the recently announced 18% tariff revision by the Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He noted that while the revision may not fully meet the expectations and demands of the transport community, it nonetheless represents a significant and positive step toward providing relief to transporters.
Wazir explained that transport operators across Jammu and Kashmir have been facing severe financial strain due to a combination of factors, including recent incidents of terrorism and natural calamities that have adversely affected their livelihoods. In this context, the tariff revision offers much-needed support to sustain the sector.
He further acknowledged and expressed gratitude to the Transport Minister, Transport Secretary, the Transport Commissioner, and all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) for their efforts and initiative in considering and implementing the tariff revision. The present revision, he said, brings a measure of relief to the community.
AJKTWA members present on the occasion included- Vijay Singh Chib, Labh Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Niranjan Singh, KD Singh, Vijay Dogra, Shanti Saroop, Sanjeev Choudhary and Balbir Singh.
