SRINAGAR, Mar 15: Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister, UT of Jammu Kashmir called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, today.
Meanwhile, a delegation of National Conference (NC) legislators met Lieutenant Governor and urged him to review and withdraw cases registered against youths following protests over the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Syed Ali Khamenei.
The delegation, led by Tanvir Sadiq, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Zadibal, included Ali Mohammad Dar, MLA Chadoora, Javaid Riyaz Bedar, MLA Pattan and Hilal Akbar Lone, MLA Sonawari.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sadiq said the delegation appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to consider the release of youths lodged in various jails after protests erupted following the killing of Khamenei.
He said the protests were spontaneous and several FIRs were registered against young people who participated in the demonstrations.
The legislators requested that these cases be reviewed and withdrawn.
“We urged that the youth who have been arrested following the protests be released, especially with Eid-ul-Fitr approaching,” Sadiq said, adding that many of those detained are very young.
According to him, the Lieutenant Governor listened to the delegation carefully and assured them that the matter would be reviewed and appropriate action taken.
Sadiq said the NC also seeks the release of individuals who have been in jail for several years as a goodwill gesture. “That was not discussed today, but we believe it is time for such a step,” he said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of All Minority Employees Association Kashmir, led by its President Sanjay Koul, called on Lieutenant Governor.
