SGRDS celebrates birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram

JAMMU, Mar 15: The birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram was celebrated by the Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha (SGRDS) with great respect and enthusiasm, here today.
A large number of social activists, intellectuals and members of the community gathered to pay tribute to the renowned social reformer and leader who dedicated his life to the upliftment of marginalized sections of society.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal Basson, General Secretary of SGRDS, said that Kanshi Ram had qualified for the Survey of India examination but chose not to join the training in Dehradun. Later, he was selected as a Junior Scientist at the Central Institute of Military Explosives in Poona (now Pune).
Dr Rajinder Sambyal, president of Dr B R Ambedkar Welfare Association Greater Kailash, said that Kanshi Ram founded the All India Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMSEF) on December 6, 1978, which later became a strong platform for social mobilization.
He also mentioned the formation of Dalit Shoshit Samaj Sangharsh Samiti (DS-4) on December 6, 1981, which organized massive cycle rallies across the country.
M R Bangotra, Prithvi Singh, Prof G L Thapa, Bihari Lal Digra, Mohinder Bhagat, Pawan Bhagat, Baldev Raj Nargotra, Prof C L Shivgotra also addressed the gathering.
Among others who were present during the event included R C Bhasin, Darshan Kalsotra, Master Tara Chand, Joginder Pal, V K Kundal, C D Shivgotra, Dr V K Shivgotra, Dr Buti Ram, M L Banalia, Sudesh Bangotra, Sudershan Kumar, Sanjay Kalsi, Ricky Kumar, Rajat Kumar, Kasturi Lal, Rattan Lal, Ram Lal, Tej Ram, Sunesh Kumar and Surjeet Singh Heer.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also paid tribute to its founder, Kanshi Ram, on his 92nd Birth anniversary.
During the event held in Kathua district, BSP State In-charge and Central Coordinator Nitin Singh attended as the chief guest, while BSP state president Darshan Rana served as the principal guest at the program organized in Jammu district.
The program in Kathua district was presided over by the party’s state coordinator, Sunil Majotra, whereas the event in the Jammu zone was presided over by the JKUT vice president, Charanjit Chargotra.
Meanwhile, addressing the gathering in Jammu, BSP state president Darshan Rana remarked that the sacrifices made by Manyavar Kanshi Ram can never be forgotten; it is solely due to his contributions that the Dalit and backward sections of society have received justice today.
He further emphasized the need to disseminate the ideals and philosophy of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar to every single citizen.
A large number of BSP leaders and workers including Charanjit Chargotra, Raja Singh, Secretary Bishan Das Bhagat, Davinder Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Akshay Kumar, Chitra Manu, Jaspal Bhagat, Ramesh Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Swarna Lata and Jagdish Verma.
