SAMBA, Mar 16: The relatives of a house wife who died under suspicious circumstances last night in Badyal village, in the Rajpura area of Ghagwal, tehsil of Samba district, staged a protest by blocking the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway demanding a thorough probe into her death.
According to reports, Ritu Sharma’s body was discovered under suspicious circumstances late Sunday night. Consequently, on Monday, the deceased’s relatives from maternal side staged a protest at the District Hospital Samba against her in-laws, demanding the strictest possible action against them. Subsequently, after the post-mortem examination of the body was completed, the family members placed the body at the main square in Ghagwal and staged a massive demonstration.
As soon as news of the incident reached the deceased’s maternal family, hundreds of people—including Panchs and Sarpanchs—arrived from Papad village in Nud to the District Hospital in Samba, where they staged an intense protest expressing their outrage.
The maternal family and villagers alleged that Ritu Sharma had been murdered. They claimed that the deceased’s husband subjected her to constant harassment, and it was this abuse that ultimately led to her death. The irate crowd demanded justice within the hospital premises and called for stern action against the accused.
To defuse the situation, DySP Dr. Sumit Sharma, SHO Samba Pushpinder Singh, and Ghagwal SHO, Asha Nand arrived at the scene. The officials attempted to pacify the crowd and assured them that an impartial investigation into the matter would be conducted. The police stated that the deceased’s husband, Dwarka Nath, has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated. Later last rites of the deceased were performed at her village Badyal, Rajpura.
