JAMMU, Mar 16: Provincial president of National Conference for Jammu province, Rattan Lal Gupta, today reiterated the party’s demand for the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir while addressing a meeting of Youth National Conference workers at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan.
Addressing Youth National Conference (YNC) workers and local leaders, Gupta urged the Union Government to introduce and pass a bill in Parliament during the ongoing session to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He said the step was essential for strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring accountable governance in the Union Territory.
Gupta stated that the people of J&K have been waiting for the restoration of their democratic rights and an elected government with full powers. According to him, statehood is crucial for empowering elected representatives to take decisions on issues related to the welfare, development and aspirations of the people.
He further maintained that the restoration of statehood would also help improve the security and law and order situation in the region. Gupta said that when governance is driven by representatives chosen by the people, coordination between the administration, security agencies and the public becomes more effective.
Highlighting the developmental aspect, Gupta said that a full-fledged state government would be better positioned to accelerate development initiatives, strengthen infrastructure and generate employment opportunities for youth.
Gupta also remarked that restoration of statehood would ensure that local priorities receive due attention and that development policies are shaped according to the unique needs of the region. Empowering an elected government, he added, would help address long-pending issues related to public services, urban development, tourism promotion and rural infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, Tejinder Pal Singh Aman, provincial president, YNC Jammu, said that the Government led by Omar Abdullah is committed to empowering youth so that they can serve society and contribute to the region’s development.
Several senior party leaders, YNC functionaries and workers were present on the occasion.
