DODA, Mar 16: Police in Bhaderwah foiled an attempt to smuggle timber during the intervening night and seized a large quantity of illegally transported wood in the Bhalra area.
According to officials, a police party from Police Post Bhalra intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK06C-4883 during routine checking. On inspection, the team found 26 Kail timber sleepers being transported without any valid permission.
The vehicle was being driven by Sunil Kumar, son of Ved Raj, a resident of Sarna in Bhaderwah tehsil of Doda district.
Police seized the vehicle along with the timber and brought them to Police Post Bhalra for further legal proceedings. The Forest Department has been informed to initiate necessary action under the relevant forest laws.
