UDHAMPUR, Mar 17: Udhampur Police foiled a bovine smuggling attempt at Jakhani and rescued 41 bovines, which were loaded in a truck on way to Kashmir.
Acting on reliable information, a police team of Police Station Udhampur established a naka at Jakhani and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK19A-9727, which was on its way from Jammu towards Srinagar.
On being signalled to stop, the driver attempted to flee. The truck was chased by the police party, following which the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the spot on foot.
During checking of the vehicle, 41 bovine animals were found being transported illegally in a cruel manner tied with ropes. Police rescued the animals and seized the truck.
In this regard, FIR No. 80/2026 U/S 223 BNS and 11PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation is underway.
