SRINAGAR, Mar 17: Only two out of eleven drinking water schemes taken up under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Kupwara constituency have been completed so far, while the remaining projects are still at different stages of execution. Official data also shows that all four schemes taken up under the UT Capex programme in the constituency are still in progress.
According to the official data on the status of schemes under JJM and UT Capex in the jurisdiction of PHE Division Kupwara, WSS Gulgam Tangwari and WSS Aug Awoora Kashmiri-Muqam have achieved 100 percent physical progress and are operational, though both schemes are yet to be certified by the concerned authority.
The remaining nine JJM schemes are still under implementation. WSS Chayalpathri Muqam Shahwali (Partly) has reached 90 percent completion, while WSS Kalaroos has achieved 80 percent progress. WSS Manzhar Gundsena stands at 75 percent, WSS Mehmoodabad Babarghat Hatmulla at 74 percent, WSS Khumriyal at 73 percent, and WSS Regional Kupwara at 70 percent completion.
Similarly, WSS Ishtiyal has recorded 60 percent progress, while WSS Khojipora Zadipora has reached 50 percent completion.

As per the remarks in the official data, the project depends on a borewell source and two trials carried out by the Ground Water Department to establish the source at different locations failed. Another trial was recently initiated but could not be completed due to suspension of work by the concerned agency because of non-availability of funds under JJM.
The data further shows that all four schemes taken up under the UT Capex programme are still in progress. WSS Bungam Hyhama LUP2382 has achieved 95 percent progress, while Goose Zangli LUP2377 has reached 65 percent completion. The stabilization of water supply schemes in Kupwara project stands at 55 percent progress.
Meanwhile, the Water Supply Scheme Bumhama Kupwara, a newly taken up project under UT Capex, has not yet started work and currently shows zero physical progress. The remarks state that the scheme has been recently taken up and work for establishing a borewell as the source is expected to start shortly.
The Government has also stated that the Government of India has extended the Jal Jeevan Mission till December 2028, and the department is expected to complete all pending schemes within the extended timeline.
