Police solves theft case

Srinagar, Mar 17: Police in Pulwama have solved a theft case within days of its reporting and recovered the stolen vehicle, officials said today.
A complaint was lodged at Police Station Kakapora on March 14, 2026, by Mohd Noor Alam, son of Abdul Hashim, a resident of Banagogi, Badalgawun in Assam’s Nagaon district, stating that his auto rickshaw (JK04D-3791) had been stolen from Kakapora Chowk by unknown persons.
Police registered FIR No. 20/2026 and launched an investigation.
Acting on specific inputs, a police team apprehended a suspect, identified as Yawar Ahmad Shaksaz of Karnabal Samboora.
During interrogation, as per police, he confessed to the theft, leading to the recovery of the stolen auto rickshaw at his instance.
During further investigation, as per police, the accused also disclosed involvement in another theft case.
Police said he, along with an accomplice, Amir Ahmad Sofi of Astan Mohalla Kakapora, had stolen batteries from vehicles parked in Okhoo in July last year. Some of the stolen batteries have been recovered.
Further investigation is in progress, police said.
