JAMMU, Mar 18: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), led by working president Raman Bhalla, today met Shantmanu to press for early elections to Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation, which included chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, DCC Jammu president Yogesh Sawhney, former legislators Ved Mahajan and Balbir Singh, and DCC Jammu Rural president Neeraj Kundan, discussed key issues concerning grassroots democratic institutions.
During the meeting, the members highlighted concerns related to revision of voter lists, delimitation and rationalization of wards, and reservation and rotation for SC, ST, women and OBC categories. They stressed the need for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections and called for the involvement of all political parties in the process to make it more effective and credible.
The delegation also sought details about the Election Commission’s ongoing preparations and assured full cooperation in conducting the electoral exercise. It expressed readiness for polls to all Panchayati Raj Institutions that are currently due.
Speaking to reporters later, Bhalla termed the meeting fruitful, stating that discussions focused on ensuring an early, smooth and meaningful election process. He added that the interaction was largely a courtesy call following the assumption of office by the State Election Commissioner, along with preliminary deliberations on the ongoing election-related exercise.
