JAMMU, Mar 18: Factory workers of ‘Hindustan Pencils Pvt Ltd’ situated at Akhnoor Road, Talab Tillo today gathered at Labour Office here and staged a protest demonstration against the factory management for extending the lay off period again and again ultimately making it for unlimited period.
A deputation of Pencil Workers Union also met the Deputy Labour Commissioner Jammu and apprised him about the issue.
The Deputy Labour Commissioner assured that next week the factory management will be called and a joint meeting will be organised.
It is pertinent to mention here that the factory caught fire during some welding work on January 27, 2026 due to which some portion of the factory was damaged and after that the factory was closed to restart it again after repairing.
Addressing the workers, Harbans Choudhary, BMS senior leader claimed that there was no sign of repairing the factory.
He further said that layoff was given to only 90-95 workers while more than 150 workers who were engaged through labour supplier contractors were not given any layoff.
The BMS leader demanded that layoff be stopped and all the workers should be taken back on duty.
Ashok Choudhary, deputy organizing secretary north zone BMS and Harnam Singh, president of Hindustan Pencil Workers Union also addressed the gathering.
