LEH, Mar 19: The second UT-level coordination committee meeting for the sacred exposition of the holy relics of Tathagata Buddha was held in Leh today, with Chief Secretary Ladakh Ashish Kundra chairing the session to review preparations for the mega event scheduled from May 1 to May 14, 2026.
The meeting discussed the overall plan, timelines and key arrangements for the exposition, which is expected to attract visitors from across the country and abroad.
A detailed presentation was given on the proposed programme, including inaugural and closing ceremonies, seminars, interfaith dialogue, meditation and yoga sessions, Buddhist prayers, and cultural events to be held at venues such as CIBS, Dharma Centre, MIMC, Leh Palace and Leh Main Market.
The Chief Secretary said the event would mark the beginning of a new phase of spiritual and cultural tourism in Ladakh.
He stressed the need to finalise the list of dignitaries, including Rinpoches and representatives of various Buddhist organisations, who will receive the holy relics in Delhi and Leh.
He informed that permission has been granted for the 14-day exposition and a proposal has also been sent to take the relics to Zanskar for public display.
Kundra reviewed arrangements for Buddha Purnima on May 1 and directed timely preparation of a secure casket for the relics.
He also asked departments to ensure proper visitor management, including designated areas for rituals and photography.
He said efforts are underway to invite ambassadors from Buddhist countries and an official website will be launched soon for wider outreach.
Directions were also issued to coordinate with stakeholders, including tourism bodies, to ensure smooth arrangements for visitors.
The meeting was attended by senior officers, police officials, representatives of religious bodies and other stakeholders.
