The Grand Mufti, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi said that his office had sought testimonies from various parts of J&K and Ladakh regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
“Despite extensive efforts and outreach, no credible testimony was received from any part or quarter till late Thursday evening,” he said adding Friday will be as such observed as the 30th and final day of the holy month of Ramadan, following which Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday.
“The decision was taken after due consultations with acknowledged and reputed scholars from across the region,” he added.
The sighting of the Shawwal moon signals the end of Ramadan and marks the beginning of Eid al-Fitr.
