JAMMU, Mar 19: Police here today claimed they have solved a theft case involving Jammu Smart City equipment, arresting two individuals and recovering 18 stolen batteries from their possession.
A police spokesperson said on February 28, 2026, batteries and other vital components were stolen from the Smart city CCTV installations at prominent locations, including Asia Chowk, Bikram Chowk, and Amphalla Chowk.
The theft severely disrupted surveillance and traffic monitoring system in several areas of the city.
Taking cognizance of these incidents, the police official said, a case FIR number 60/2026 under sections 305 and 303(2) of the BNS was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar.
Post registration of FIR, a dedicated police team led by Inspector Jaipaul Sharma, SHO Gandhi Nagar, comprising other officers, including PSIs Nadeem Akram, Arun Thakyal, ASI Pintoo Kumar, and SPO Rashpaul Kumar, worked under the close supervision of SDPO South Kuljeet Singh and SP South Dr Ajay Sharma, with overall supervision of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh and apprehended two suspects, the police spokesperson said.
They were identified as Himanshu Gill alias Badaa Prince and his associate Prince Sharma.
The police spokesperson said that during sustained questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime and on this disclosure, the stolen 18 batteries were recovered to restore the Smart City Surveillance network.
According to him, one of the accused Himanshu Gill is habitual offender with multiple cases registered against him across various police stations in Jammu and adjoining districts.
Meanwhile, further investigation has been set into motion to identify additional associates, if any, to recover the remaining stolen property, added the police spokesperson.
