The post of Epidemiologist-cum-Assistant Professor (SPM) is also lying vacant, with one sanctioned post but none in place, being managed under an academic arrangement.
Several critical healthcare positions are completely unfilled, including both sanctioned posts of Lady Medical Officer and the single sanctioned post of Child Psychologist.
Among Casualty Medical Officers, 7 are in place against 12 sanctioned posts, leaving 5 vacancies, while key administrative roles such as Librarian and Medical Record Officer also remain vacant.
The shortage extends significantly to nursing and paramedical staff. Against 131 sanctioned nursing posts, only 82 are in place, while 49 are vacant, with 21 being managed through academic arrangements.
The paramedical workforce shows an even wider gap, with only 55 personnel in place against 131 sanctioned posts, leaving 76 vacancies, including 43 under academic arrangements.
Other staff positions reflect a similar trend, with 142 in place against 277 sanctioned posts, leaving 135 vacant.
At associated hospitals, including MMABM and Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH), staffing gaps persist.
Of 29 sanctioned consultant posts, 18 are filled, while 11 remain vacant. Specialist positions such as pediatricians, anesthetists, gynecologists and general physicians are fully staffed.
However, among Medical Officers, 19 are in place against 31 sanctioned posts.
Paramedical staff show 25 in position against 59 sanctioned posts, leaving 34 vacancies, while nursing staff are particularly strained, with only 8 in place against 42 sanctioned posts, leaving 34 vacant.

At the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) Brakpora, core positions such as Medical Officer and Dental Surgeon are fully staffed, with 2 and 1 personnel, respectively.
However, the post of Community Health Officer (CHO) remains vacant. While positions such as Medical Officer (ISM), Health Educator, Pharmacist and Junior Lab Technician are filled, vacancies persist in Junior Staff Nurse, Senior Assistant and Junior Assistant posts.
Despite these staffing constraints, infrastructure at GMC Anantnag and its associated hospitals has seen notable expansion.
Available facilities include hospital buildings comprising Blocks A, B and C, the old hospital building, a 4300 LPM oxygen generation plant, hospital store, resident doctors’ quarters, NICU and MICU set up in pre-fabricated structures, CSSD, and a hospital canteen.
At the associated hospitals, Blocks A and B and a canteen are functional, while the UHTC Brakpora has one hospital building.
Several key infrastructure projects are currently under construction, including a 50-bedded Critical Care Block, District Public Health Laboratory (DPHL), a Radiation Oncology Block, and an Attendant Sarai.
