Bala Jyoti stresses women’s role in power sector at national summit

JAMMU, Mar 21: Emphasising the growing need for women’s participation in the power sector, Bala Jyoti, Member (Law), Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh, today said that greater inclusion of women is essential for shaping the future of India’s energy landscape.
She was addressing a conference on “Women in Electricity: Current and Courageous” at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, which she also chaired.
In her inaugural address as chief guest, Bala Jyoti called for collective efforts to achieve the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” and stressed the need to encourage women to take up roles in challenging and innovative fields like power and electricity.
She highlighted the importance of having a clear roadmap to increase women’s presence, especially as frontline workers, and underlined the need for ensuring a safe and conducive working environment across all levels.
The conference, attended by senior experts including a Vice Chancellor from Dehradun, Director Transmission and Director Market Operation, also stressed strengthening educational and professional pathways, along with mentoring and leadership opportunities, to empower women in the sector.
