State Snow Ski C’ship commences

KARGIL, Mar 22: The State Snow Ski Championship in Ladakh commenced today in Kargil, featuring athletes from across the region. Skiers from Zanskar had been facing travel difficulties as the Kargil-Zanskar road remained closed due to heavy snowfall and blockades, raising concerns over their participation in the prestigious event.
Several young and promising skiers from Zanskar had been preparing to represent the region, prompting appeals from members of the Snow Ski and Snowboarding Association Zanskar to the administration for assistance.
Stanzin Angchuk confirmed that the association had actively sought support to ensure that the athletes could reach Kargil on time. He said the association has expressed satisfaction following the reopening of the road, stating that the skiers are now hopeful of participating and showcasing their talent in the championship.
The administration cleared the Kargil-Zanskar road after snow removal operations, allowing safe passage for travellers. Authorities have advised all intending to use the route to consult the concerned officials due to prevailing weather conditions.
The reopening has brought immense relief to the athletes from Zanskar, ensuring that their months of preparation will not go in vain. Officials and participants alike welcomed the development, emphasizing that it allows young winter sports enthusiasts from the region to compete and demonstrate their skills at the state level, reinforcing Ladakh’s growing prominence in snow skiing.
