Govt constitutes panel to implement PM RAHAT Scheme

JAMMU: The Government on Monday constituted a committee to facilitate the implementation of the Prime Minister’s RAHAT Scheme in the Union Territory, aimed at providing timely and cashless treatment to road accident victims.
As per an order issued by M. Raju, M Raju, Commissioner Secretary, General Administration Department, the committee will be chaired by the Administrative Secretary of the Home Department. Members of the panel include Administrative Secretaries of the Health and Medical Education and Transport Departments, Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, and Inspectors General of Police for Jammu, Kashmir, and Traffic, J&K.
The committee has been tasked with assisting the Jammu and Kashmir Road Safety Council in the effective implementation of the PM RAHAT Scheme across the Union Territory. It will ensure inter-departmental coordination among key departments including Transport, Health and Medical Education, and Police for smooth operationalisation of the scheme.
According to the order, the panel will review the adequacy of healthcare infrastructure such as hospitals and trauma care centres to ensure provision of cashless treatment to accident victims, in line with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It will also monitor protocols related to accident reporting, hospital admission, treatment procedures, and processing of claims, while ensuring integration with emergency response systems.
The committee will periodically assess the progress of the scheme’s implementation, identify challenges, and recommend corrective measures to enhance its effectiveness. It will also facilitate timely settlement of claims through mechanisms notified by the Government of India.
Additionally, the panel has been empowered to make further recommendations to strengthen emergency care services for road accident victims in the Union Territory.
The PM RAHAT Scheme is a significant initiative aimed at improving road safety response and ensuring immediate medical assistance to accident victims without financial burden, thereby saving lives and enhancing emergency healthcare delivery in Jammu and Kashmir.
