Panel constituted to implement Road Safety Policy-2025

JAMMU: The Government on Monday constituted a committee to monitor and implement the Road Safety Policy-2025 across the Union Territory, aimed at improving road infrastructure and reducing accidents.
As per an order issued by M. Raju, M Raju, Commissioner Secretary, General Administration Department, the committee will be headed by the Administrative Secretary of the Public Works (R&B) Department as Chairperson. The Transport Department Jammu and Kashmir will be represented by the Transport Commissioner as Member Secretary, while the Administrative Secretary Transport Department and the Inspector General of Police, Traffic, J&K, will serve as Members.
The panel has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Jammu and Kashmir Road Safety Policy-2025, including reviewing the progress made by various departments and agencies in achieving the policy’s objectives. It will also recommend engineering and safety measures to enhance road infrastructure, traffic management systems, signage, and road markings.
A key mandate of the committee includes identifying accident-prone areas or “black spots” across the Union Territory and formulating action plans for their rectification in coordination with executing agencies. The panel will periodically review the status of these corrective measures to ensure timely improvements.
The committee will further assess the planning and operationalisation of Integrated Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) and Intelligent Traffic Light Systems (ITLS) in major urban centres like Jammu and Srinagar, with a focus on expanding these systems to other towns.
In addition, the panel has been authorized to make recommendations for strengthening road safety management and improving emergency response mechanisms for accident victims across Jammu and Kashmir.
The formation of the committee reflects the government’s renewed focus on enhancing road safety standards, minimizing accidents, and ensuring better coordination among departments for safer and more efficient transportation systems in the Union Territory.
