The arrested officials have been identified as Vinay Kumar, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, EPFO Batmaloo, Kashmir Region, Srinagar, and Amin Sofi, Senior Security Assistant, EPFO Batmaloo.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on March 31, following allegations that the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh from a complainant for not taking adverse action on a complaint lodged by one of the ex-employees of his school at EPFO Office and also for not conducting harsh inspection and for not charging wrong hefty penalty against their school. The agency laid a trap the same day and caught the Senior Security Assistant red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant on behalf of the officer.
The Regional Provident Fund Commissioner was subsequently arrested after he allegedly acknowledged that the bribe had been accepted through the middleman- the Senior Security Assistant, the CBI said.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
