The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the funds received from abroad by madrassas in the state. The SIT will examine how the money is being used and whether it is being used for the intended purpose of running madrassas. The probe will focus on madrassas in districts along the Indo-Nepal border. Last year, a survey found 8,449 unrecognised madrassas operating in the state.
