National Weightlifting Championships from August 9

JAMMU: Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has decided to hold National (2020-21) Championships across different age of men and women at NSNIS Patiala from August 9 to 13, 2021.
Subsequent upon, the affiliated units of the state and boards have been advised to cut short their contingent strengths so as to adjust and follow the COVID-19 guidelines for the sports competitions.
As per an ‘urgent’ circular issued to such units, the competitions shall be held for 73rd men and 36th women senior championships 2020-2021 and 16th National Youth (sub-junior boys and girls) as also 57th men and 33rd women junior national championships.
“The competition shall be completed in three days. The priority of the IWF is to safeguard the health of its athletes and request for cooperation by bringing only those athletes with good entry total standards,” the circular mentioned.
It further read, “Those states who did not qualify with minimum qualifying criteria in any event can enter one wild card in senior men, senior women, junior men, junior women, youth boys and youth girls’ event. Such states must bring their six athletes to complete during the championships.”
