A 33-year-old woman in Thane fell victim to a Bitcoin investment scam, losing Rs 27 lakh. The scam involved a fake profile on Facebook operated by a person claiming to be a Belgian national. The woman came across a digital advertisement on Facebook offering a return of $4,800 for a minimum investment of $500 in bitcoins. She contacted the scammer, who convinced her to download a mobile application and purchase bitcoins worth Rs 50,000. After paying various charges and fees, she realized she had been duped and filed a complaint with the police.
