JAMMU: A delegation led by former MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia met members of Delimitation Commission in Jammu and submitted a memorandum, demanding increase in assembly seats of Jammu region.
Speaking after meeting delimitation commission, Mankotia said that he apprised the members of commission regarding discrimination in distribution of assembly seats to Jammu assembly from 1947 to till date.
Talking about equality in assembly seats’ distribution, he said that if delimitation setup is on basis of 2011 census, then Jammu division cannot get its right and demanded holding the same on basis of 2021 census.
“All hilly districts of Jammu, including Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Kathua, Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri etc should be made on lines of special Pahari Assembly areas on pattern of Gurez Pahadi Assembly in Kashmir. Similarly, out of 24 seats reserved for PoK, 8 seats should be given to the refugees,” he asserted.
Mankotia told the commission that if team comes out of AC rooms and meet people on block level, it can see the situation itself. Only then, there can be a right Delimitation and people can get justice on ground level, he added.
