Crackdown on bovine smuggling; 146 cattle rescued, 23 smugglers nabbed

JAMMU: To check illegal activities of bovine smugglers, Police on Friday rescued 146 bovines and arrested 23 smugglers in separate actions.
As per details, a police team led by Inspector Sumeet Sharma SHO Lakhanpur under the supervision DySP DAR Kathua Sukhdev Singh noticed a Truck (JK08B/3771) at Maggar Khad. During checking 15 bovines were rescued from the vehicle. The driver of truck fled from the spot and FIR No. 84/2021 under section 188 of IPC, 11 of PCA Act was registered at Police Station Lakhanpur.
Meanwhile, Police also rescued 7 bovines at a Naka established under jurisdiction of Police Station Nagrota and seized two vehicles (JK19 5355 and JK02CJ 7926). FIR No. 311 & 310/2021 under relevant section of law were registered in Police Station Nagrota and two accused namely Happy Choudhary, son of Balwant Raj, resident of Chack Hira and Saddam Hussain, son of Mohd Riaz, resident of Kheral Reasi were also arrested. The arrest and recovery was made by SHO Police Station Nagrota Insp Mohd Showkat under supervision of SDPO Nagrota Parupkar Singh. Further investigation is going on.
In another action, drive against bovines smuggling in district Reasi continued and teams of district police Reasi laid special Nakas and raided different passes in Pir Panjal ranges & arrested 21 bovine smugglers and rescued 124 bovines being illegally transported. Team of Police Station Mahore foiled major bovines smuggling bid, rescued 45 cattle, arrested 9 accused persons and seized 4 vehicles involved in transporting bovines illegally.
Team of police station Mahore during series of raids and surprise Nakas apprehended 8 bovine smugglers namely Mohd Sadiq, son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Banna Tehsil Chassana; Malook, son of Ab Rashid, resident of Channa tehsil Chassana; Bashir Ahmed, son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Neosi Channa Tehsil Chassana; Mohd Shafi, son of Mehindyia, resident of Larh Gulabgarh Tehsil Mahore; Mohd Younis, son of Mohd Hafiz, resident of Channa Chassana & drivers of vehicles including Mahindra (Jk20A/0963 6); Altaf Hussain, son of Ghulam Mohd, resident of Tukson Tehsil Mahore, driver of vehicle (Jk20B/1484), Shabir Ahmed, son of Mohd Yaqoob, resident of Channa Chassana, driver (JK20/1137 08); Ajaz Ahmed, son of Mohd Shafi, resident of Mallan Jamlan Mahore, driver (Jk20B/2926) from village Bradsheeli Angralla and rescued 25 bovines from their possession. FIR number 47/2021 under sections 188 IPC and 11(1) PCA of Act was registered and investigation set in.
Another bovine smuggler namely Javed Hussain, son of Mohd Iqbal, resident of Shajroo was apprehended from Bandinar Khour Gulabghar and 20 bovines were rescued from his possession. FIR No 48/21 under section 188/IPC was registered at Police Station Mahore and investigation set in. Teams of Police Station Arnas, in a series of raids, arrested 9 bovines smugglers while foiling six separate bovines smuggling bids in Arnas Areas and rescued 31 bovines from their possession.
FIR numbers 68, 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74/ 2021 under section 188 IPC, 11 PC Act were registered at Police Station Arnas while rescuing 31 bovines from the possession of 9 smugglers who were arrested. The accused were identified as Mohd Shaheen, son of Shabir Ahmed, resident of Hariwala; Shabir Ahmed, son of Ab Rashid, resident of Shajroo; Javed Hussain, son of Mohd Iqbal, resident of Shajroo; Arshad Shah, son of Yousaf Shah, resident of Thilloo; Akhter Hussain, son of Mohd Sultan, resident of Bassan,Thuroo; Abdul Rashid, son of Ali Mohd, resident of Ladda; Baldev Singh, son of Munshi Ram, resident of Gundali; Mohd Ashraf, son of Makhan, resident of Thuroo and Billu, son of Ali Mohd, resident of Dhandli.
In another incident team of police station Mahore apprehended a bovine smuggler namely Qamar Din, son of Ghulam Nabi, resident of Shajroo Tehsil Mahore from village Ramakumda and rescued 19 bovines from his possession. FIR number 51/2021 under section 188 of IPC was registered at Police Station Mahore investigation set in. Two bovine smugglers namely Abdul Hamid, son of Mohd Kaamal, resident of Shibras Tehsil Mahore and Mohd Iqbal, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Neoch Tehsil Mahore were arrested from village Adital Gulabgrah and 29 bovine animals were rescued from their possession. In this regard, FIR no 52/2021 under section 188 IPC was registered.
On preliminary stage of investigation, it has been found that bovines were carried from different areas & collected at single points before further smuggling them across valley on vehicles as well as through mountain-passes on foot.
Police Reasi under the command of SSP Shailender Singh has established zero tolerance towards bovines smuggling and in current season of nomad movement, 386 cattle were rescued and 42 FIRs were registered against bovines smuggling, in which 75 accused were booked since April 2021.
